STROLLING THROUGH CILICIA 

NEW RESEARCH ON ROMAN AND LATE ANTIQUE CILICIA

This project consists of a workshops series focussing on Roman and Late Antique Cilicia which is going to take place in the Fall and Spring Semesters of 2021-22. The main goal is to digitally bring together scholars from North America, Europe and Turkey, regardless of the career stage (graduate students to professors), and tackle one specific topic during each of these workshops. The project intends to improve scholarly exchange and become a platform where investigators can get feeback on current research projects, ideally even leading to further collaboration. Each workshop will incorporate three or four papers centered around its main theme, it will take about 2,5 hours. A publication is not planned.

KILIKIA'DA GEZİNTİ 

KILIKIA’DA ROMA VE GEÇ ANTİK DÖNEME AİT YENİ ARAŞTIRMALAR

Bu proje Kilikia’nın Roma ve Geç Antik Dönemleri’ne odaklanan bir çalıştay serisidir ve 2021-22 yılının Güz ve Bahar Dönemleri’nde gerçekleştirilecektir. Bu projenin ana hedefi, lisans mezunlarından profesörlere kadar Kuzey Amerika, Avrupa ve Türkiye’den meslektaşları dijital ortamda bir araya getirmek ve her bir çalıştayda belirlenen bir konuyu ele almaktır. Bu projenin amacı, meslektaşlar arasında bilimsel alışverişi geliştirmek ve araştırmacıların güncel araştırma projelerinden faydalanmalarını hatta daha fazla iş birliğine yönelmelerini sağlamaktır. Her çalıştay belirlenen ana konu çerçevesinde toplam 2.5 saat süren üç veya dört sunumu kapsayacaktır. Bir yayın çalışması yapılmayacaktır.

The speakers Tim Howe (St. Olaf), Asena Kızılarslanoğlu (Kastamonu Üniversitesi) and Günder Varinlioğlu (Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi) will present papers on Dana Island, Elaiussa Sebaste and Antiochia ad Cragum.

ARCHITECTURE AND ORNAMENT IN ROUGH CILICIA   

April 21st 2022 - via ZOOM  

After a successful first workshop with attendees from four continents, the second workshop concentrates on "Architecture and Ornament in Rough Cilicia". It will take place on April 21st. The speakers Okan Özdemir (Mersin Üniversitesi), Gabriele Mietke (Staatliche Museen zu Berlin) and İlkay Göçmen (Mersin Üniversitesi) will present papers on decorations of rural houses in eastern Rough Cilicia, on architectural Sculpture from Meriamlik and Korykos and on Justinian's bridge at Tarsus.

FROM ROCK-CUT CLOISTERS TO MONK COLONIES: MONASTICISM IN ROUGH CILICIA
